JERSEY VEGAN, VEGETARIAN AND FLEXITARIAN
January sees us all looking into a crystal ball and thinking about the year ahead. We wonder what trends will be here to stay and whether we will maintain our New Year’s resolutions, such as opting for a Veganuary, past the third weekend in January! There is no doubt that many of us in Jersey, Channel Islands are changing our diet to include more plant-based food. Last year we saw veganism become more popular and more people are choosing vegan and vegetarian options when they go out to dine in Jersey.
But it’s not just those following a 100% plant-based diet or those who choose to be dairy-free and meat-free when eating out who are ordering these dishes. An increasing number of people are becoming flexitarian in their approach to food and dining out. Flexitarians join those who choose to follow a vegan or vegetarian diet for ethical reasons, in opting for meat and dairy free food for health reasons, to reduce the environmental impact they make on the world or maybe just because our vegan food is so tasty!
Vegetarian and vegan food choices made by our customers are still a small percentage of the overall dishes we serve but we are keen that families, couples and groups of friends can all feel happy dining in our restaurants whatever their individual chosen diet. So whether it’s our Complète Burger with crispy bacon, cheese, tomato, brioche bun and gherkin & sweetcorn salad, our famous Crab Linguine or a 100% plant-based Vegan Burger, with a pretzel bun and spicy Sriracha vegan mayonnaise, we’ve always been keen to offer something for everyone at Jersey Crab Shack.
And we don’t forget those with food allergies and intolerance as every dish on our menu clearly marks whether it is gluten-free or dairy-free and we have an Allergy Menu that sets out 14 key allergens contained in every one of our dishes. It’s a lot of work to maintain this list but we want everyone who dines with us to feel confident that they know what’s in their food when they eat at Jersey Crab Shack in St Helier, Gorey or St Brelade.
Currently we have over 35 vegetarian choices on our menu across starters, mains, puddings and side orders. We have 15 100% plant-based vegan and 30 dairy-free choices and we have regular monthly changing specials. We wish you all the best for a Happy and Peaceful New Year whatever you choose to eat!
